It's not unexpected when worship songs and dynamic Christian artists are birthed out of the local church. For many years, artists such as Chris Tomlin, Paul Baloche, David Crowder, Casting Crowns, and Lincoln Brewster have been inspired by church ministry to create meaningful lyrics and a cohesive sound built upon theological dialogue within the local church. For Christian artist, Kyle Wijnands, this could not be more true.

“I find that Christian songwriting would be very difficult without the relationships, community, and ministry opportunities I have within the contexts of the local church” says Kyle Wijnands who serves as a part-time youth pastor at Riverdale Mennonite Church in Millbank, Ontario. Kyle is a songwriter and musician who has been singing and playing the piano since the age of eight. Over the last four years, he has completed his Bachelor of Theological studies in the pastoral program at Emmanuel Bible College to prepare for full-time church ministry.  During this time, Kyle has had many opportunities to perform his music and lead worship at college, local churches, vacation Bible schools, ministry retreats, youth gatherings, and even an international music festival in Rochester, New York.

In 2010, Kyle started recording an album of ten songs he has written over the past number of years of his life. His album “Beautiful Brokenness” is a window into his journey with Jesus in the language of this generation. His sound consists of sweet melodies, melding harmonies, and acoustic underpinnings married to lyrics speaking to the heart. In many ways, Kyle is content to leave the genre-parsing of his music to others, hoping to attend to more pressing agendas- creating worship music which will resonate with the worshiper and give glory to Jesus Christ.

Kyle writes worship music that he has had the opportunity to share with the congregation at Riverdale. “My prayer is that my songs would portray God accurately, be a catalyst to worship Him fervently, and an inspiration to seek hope and healing in the person of Jesus Christ,” Kyle says. “Nothing matters more than for the arts to honor the one for whom they were created by and for. I have worked tirelessly on the album ‘Beautiful Brokenness’ to be a testimony of how God has brought beauty out of brokenness in my own life. I believe that when we confess our brokenness and humbly admit that we need Christ to clean up our messy life, God looks at us and sees beauty.”

"My prayer is that this album would be a soundtrack to our lives inspiring us to humbly and desperately seek the Lord in everything that we do. It is amazing that God can use broken people like us to be part of a beautiful kingdom tapestry that He is weaving!"

Beautifully Broken,

Kyle Wijnands
